Principal's Bulletin # 6

Dear Belmont Family,

As you may have seen, New York City Public Schools have embarked on some new plans of action to make the educational process more transparent for parents, students and educators. Since 2002, we have worked to instill a true sense of urgency in our students so that they are competitive in today’s world. It has been argued that “we make the path by walking” and I could not agree more. As our system promotes, academic rigor, support, collaborative efforts, community involvement, strong leadership and trust, it should be clear that these are things that we already do.

As the year unfolds we, in concert with The City, will promote academic rigor and one way we are doing this is by having increased our Advanced Placement course offerings. By providing mentoring and reaching out to those in need, such as City Harvest, we continue to strengthen our communal ties and by fostering teachers’ professional growth, we demonstrate our belief in collaborative leadership practices.

This is not new for us. It is who we are and what we do and we are pleased to have you working with us to celebrate our success, address our failures and make the best path possible for your child.

We are proud that you trust this important work to us and look forward to your support in all that we do in the service of our Mission, Vision and Core Values.

Fondly,

Principal Gumbs
